CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation pushed back the reopening date of S Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges by six months.

The bridge construction is part of Phase II of the I-75/I-24 interchange project.

TDOT said they now expect these two bridges to reopen in January 2025, six months later than expected.

Back in May, TDOT said five concrete beams for the bridges did not meet the requirements for construction. Those five beams had to be refabricated. TDOT said the new beams were delivered and set this week.

Phase II of the interchange project is now 40% complete, according to TDOT. Phase II completion is slated for late 2025.

The completion date and cost remain unchanged at this time. The cost of Phase II is $161 million, TDOT stated.

In addition, they explained that closing both bridges at once cuts back construction time.

Phase I was completed in 2021 after two years of construction.
