Sabrena Smedley joins race for Hamilton County Mayor

She is the first woman to ever run for the seat

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Another person has tossed their hat into the Hamilton County Mayoral Race, bringing the total candidates so far to 3.

Realtor and Hamilton County Commissioner and Chair Sabrena Smedley has filed paper work to run for the position being left vacant by Mayor Jim Coppinger.

She made the announcement this morning before a crowd of supporters at the former Mary Ann Garber School which will be the location for a new vocational school.

Smedley will be running against Matt Hullander and Weston Wamp.

She will be the first woman to ever run for County Mayor.

“Not only do I have business experience as a small business woner, but I also have true government experience through my service as commissioner. I am also serving in my second term as the chairman of the commission. It humbles me to know my fellow commissioners have confidence in my leadership ability. And unaninmously chose me for this position.”

The commission is expanding to 11 seats following redistricting.

Should Smedley win, another seat will be vacant as well.
