Salvation Army Shelter Opens
The shelter on McCallie was packed during the morning as scores of individuals and families sought temporary shelter there.
Representative Kimberly George says there’s another need that has not been filled.
There are no portable heaters at all at the Cleveland shelter and only 4 in Chattanooga.
Kimberly George says, "Those heaters come in really handy for low income residents and especially senior citizens who sometimes live in older homes that are not well insulated. They like to put the heater on in one room, close off all the doors, so at least one of their rooms in their home stays very warm."
Kimberly says the shelter at 800 McCallie will be open again Friday night.
She says volunteers are needed to help care for those who seek help from the Salvation Army.
