Samuel Goni Gets Hat Trick as CFC Beat Asheville 9-0 in ‘Blue Ridge Derby’
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The CFC turned the Blue Ridge Derby into the Blue Ridge Clinic as Chattanooga beat Asheville 9-0 in an exhibition match at Finley Stadium.
The two clubs met on the pitch in a match dubbed the Blue Ridge Derby as the two teams are trying to create a rivalry between the NPSL members.
Chattanooga was clearly the dominant team.
John Carrier got the first goal of the game on a little jump kick off a pass from Cameron Woodfin.
The next goal was a thing of beauty.
Leo DeSmedt stole the ball at midfield, and not long after he got the ball, he let it fly.
He put one in the net from some 50-yards out to make it 2-0.
Chattanooga’s next goal was pretty cool as well.
Luke Winter made a sweet pass that led Samuel Goni perfectly behind the defense.
Goni ran some 40 yards to chase the ball down, and he punched in a point blank shot to make it 3-0.
Chattanooga pushed the lead to 5-0 at halftime on their way to a 9-0 victory.
Goni got the hat trick with three goals.
The CFC also won custody of the game trophy for a year, which was a beer keg.
Said Goni:”I was happy I got the hat trick. First starting game after my knee surgery. I just wanted to play good and not have any pain. But I got three goals, and I’m really happy. The whole team made an amazing performance. It’s ashame we didn’t do this during the regular season.”
