Scam Warning: You could help online thefts if you fall for this

ATHENS, Tennessee (WDEF) – It may sound like an easy buck, but a local sheriff says you could end up in the middle of online theft and credit card fraud.

Sheriff Joe Guy warns about a 3rd party scam that people have been getting in the mail.

You get a job application letter, like the one below, for a “Shipping Agent” job for an online company.

As the shipping agent, they send you packages, you take a photo, then re-ship it to another address.

But the Sheriff says the company and scheme is a fake.

You won’t get your money.

And you are helping online thieves by disguising their stolen goods.

He says companies like “Shipping Go” in the letter below, use stolen credit card numbers to buy the goods.  And by getting you to re-ship the product, the credit card company has a harder time tracking it down.

The sheriff says “This scam is very believable. Citizens are encouraged to take note and warn others.”
