Schedule Break Allows Mocs to Enjoy Thrilling Win Over ETSU
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Mocs basketball team dove into the new year with four conference games in eight days.
Now they get a chance to relax with only one game in the next eleven days.
Just what a team needs that’s a little banged up coming off a thrilling victory.
Good thing Chattanooga doesn’t play again until Thursday. Gives them more time to celebrate Casey Jones incredible game winning shot against ETSU in overtime.
Said Jones,"So when I looked back to give it to Rico, the man guarding me kind of jumped the play out there a little bit. He jumped, and I looked at the basket. I was wide open. Time was running down, so I had to shoot it."
Said head coach Will Wade,"He didn’t panic with it. He made a nice ball-fake. The guy jumped back to the back-side of the zone where we had been throwing it. Left him open, and Casey just rose up and knocked it in."
Said Jones,"My head completely went blank. Next thing I know, I was getting tackled in the corner by Rico."
For Jones, that was just his second three-pointer of the season.
Reporter-"Do you think the scouting report is going to change on you now saying this kid can shoot a three?"
Chuckles Jones,"Not at all. Hopefully they’re thinking luck of the draw, and I get to do what I do best and get to the rack."
The Mocs managed to beat ETSU without two injured players in point guard Greg Pryor and forward Lance Stokes.
Said Wade,"You know we’re scrappy a little bit, a little feisty. Probably get that a little bit from me. Kind of my personality most of the time."
Coach Wade expects Pryor back against Samford. He has missed two games with a hip flexor.
"Our offense is not nearly as good without Greg out there. Rico can’t get the clean looks from the point guard spot that he can get from the two guard spot. There’s a lot of little intricacies with having Pryor out there."
