More schools closing for the flu

CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) – Bradley County schools are the latest system to shutdown because of high absenteeism from illness.

Here are the particulars of each system so far.


BRADLEY COUNTY “due to illness”

Closed Friday
All elementary activities are cancelled.
Secondary Open Houses will still take place tonight.
All sporting events will still take place.


CLEVELAND “closure will allow our cleaning service to properly sanitize the schools and offices.”

Closed Friday & Monday
All after-school activities and athletic events will be determined by the school principal
Twelve month employees will work regular hours on Friday, February 2.
Twelve month employees will not work on Monday, February 5.


MCMINN COUNTY “This will also allow us the time to bleach, fog and wipe down all classrooms”

Closed Friday & Monday
All sports activities and any meetings scheduled in our schools this weekend, are cancelled.
No one will be allowed to use our facilities as we continue to sanitize all of our buildings.


MEIGS COUNTY “due to chronic illness among students and staff.”

Closed Thursday & Friday
Classes will resume on Monday
All on-campus activities will be suspended through the weekend to allow for sanitizing within the buildings and buses.


Monroe County schools report they are monitoring the absentee rates and disinfecting schools, but no closure yet.
