Seasonal Burning Begins Saturday October 1
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The summer burn ban ends this weekend. The Hamilton-County Air Pollution Control Bureau reminds residents seasonal burning with a valid permit will be allowed again starting Saturday, October 1.
The permits issued by the Air Pollution Control Bureau allow residents to burn brush and vegetation on approved days through April 30, 2017. This includes burning in a barrel.
An inspection from a Bureau Investigator and a $50 processing fee are required for burning in Chattanooga, Collegedale, East Ridge, Red Bank, and Ridgeside city limits.
In other areas of Hamilton County, a permit cots $5 and typically doesn’t require an inspection.
These permits can be obtained by phone, by mail, or online from the Hamilton-County Air Pollution Control Bureau.
An additional daily burning permit from the Tennessee Department of Forestry is required for burning in unincorporated areas of Hamilton County.
The seasonal burn ban that runs May 1 – September 30 each year works to improve air quality to meet federal health standards, according to the Air Pollution Control Bureau.
