Sequatchie County Enjoying Best Season Since 1973

Dunlap, TN-(WDEF) What a magical season Sequatchie County has enjoyed this year.
They’ve ripped off a school record thirteen wins.
And if they can beat perennial power Alcoa tonight, they’ll advance to the state title game for the first time since 1973.
After losing 38-0 to Notre Dame in the first round of the playoffs last year, Sequatchie County was determined to avoid an early playoff exit this year.
Said head coach Adam Caine:”The slogan that we came up with. We say ‘Go Deep’. We break down on ‘Go Deep’. What we were meaning was we want to be around deep into the playoff the next year.”
And here they are deep in the state semifinals tonight.
Said quarterback Ethan Barker:”We’re more mentally tough this year than we were last year. Like if another team got a big play then we would get down. This year we don’t. We come back and fight.
Never hurts to have a senior like Hunter Davenport.
He’s a finalist for the 3A back of the year.
Said Caine:”He’s an absolute stud, but he likes the contact. That’s a big piece to the puzzle in high school football.”
The Indians will see a lot of studs tonight in 12-time state champion Alcoa.
Said Caine:”Have your kids ready for this is going to be played at a different speed.”
Said Davenport:”They’re a good team. We’ve just got to work hard this week and prepare and get ready for them and have a good game.”
Said Caine:”The big key with them is you can’t let them overwhelm you right at the beginning. Kind of in the old days when Mike Tyson used to knock people out in the first 60 seconds. You can’t let that happen.”
Regardles of tonight’s outcome, it has been quite a ride for the Indians.
Said Caine:”I’m having the time of my life with these kids and the ride that they have taken me on. I just hope that it can continue.”
