Serving Hope This Easter Sunday
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – This Easter Sunday, the front lawn of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center was filled with warmth, generosity, and hope as the Union Gospel Mission served its 11th Annual Easter Sunday Community Dinner.
From 1 to 3 PM, volunteers handed out a traditional Easter meal to hundreds of Chattanooga’s unhoused neighbors and others in need.
The meal included ham, potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, drinks, and desserts.
Despite Easter typically bringing the smallest volunteer turnout, due to church commitments, the community showed up, ready to serve and ready to share the message of the Resurrection.
Organizers estimate they served well over 400 meals today, and they didn’t stop there.
Volunteers also distributed “Blessing Bags” which were gallon-sized bags filled with toiletries, socks, sunscreen, and snacks.
The need has been greater than ever, with local leaders reporting an increase in homelessness this year.
Today’s event offered more than just a hot meal. It offered dignity, love, and hope.
Donations and support for the Union Gospel Mission continue to be accepted. The Mission is in constant need of canned goods, toiletries, clothes, and other items.
You can give online or drop off supplies like at their Signal Hills Boulevard location. To see the Mission’s wish list, you can click here.
Even though the Easter dinner is over, the mission’s work continues year-round, and your help can still make a difference.
