Settlement reached in Wilkey baptism case

Former Hamilton County Deputy

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A settlement has been reached in a controversial case involving the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

A $100,000 settlement has been reached between the Sheriff’s Office and the family of Shandele Riley according to attorney Robin Flores.

Riley was baptized by Hamilton County deputy Daniel Wilkey in a 2019 incident at Soddy Lake to avoid arrest on a drug charge.

The incident was caught on police cameras.

Wilkey did have all criminal charges related to the incident dismissed last year.

Riley has since passed away in an unrelated incident.

The Hamilton County Commission will have to approve this settlement on Wednesday.
