Severe Storm Damages Area, Homes Destroyed

Severe storms destroyed homes, knocked out power and sent trees tumbling into houses Monday evening.

Emergency providers scramble to help people hit hard by the storms.

East Ridge suffered some of the worst damage.

Just a few blocks off Moore Road, the destruction of this fast moving storm was evident.

These storms destroyed three homes in East Ridge and damaged at least seven others.

East Ridge Mayor Brent Lambert says the city got hit pretty hard.

One two story home was destroyed where neighbors say four children live with their parents.

The storms that blew threw here at around 6:30 p.m. knocked a tree on top of the house and completely ripped off the front in a matter of minutes.

"I just heard a crash," said neighbor Don Smith. "So I came running out of the house and I ran to his house to see if he’s okay because I see the tree go right through the house so I was like ‘oh my God man’ so I got him out of the house and he was okay. He’s just full of dirt and everything else but he turned out to be all right."

And just a block up the street on Weaver Road, another destroyed home.

A giant tree completely snapped at the bottom and rests on top of this house.

Cleanup crews were all over this area picking up fallen trees with their machinery.
