Gatlinburg Police Detective files motion to disqualify D.A. Neal Pinkston

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WDEF) – Fallout continues from the Ooltewah basketball team rape scandal this past December in Gatlinburg.

Gatlinburg Police Detective Rodney Burns filed a motion Monday to disqualify Hamilton County District Attorney Neal Pinkston.

Burns’ defense counsel issued a statement saying they believe Attorney General Pinkston and his office have a conflict of interest in the case against Detective Burns for perjury.

That’s because Detective Burns filed a civil claim against D.A. Pinkston for what he calls “libelous statements” made to the media February 17 and 18, 2016.

The Law Offices of Bryan E. Delius maintain that D.A. Pinkston has a “clear and obvious” conflict of interest because the civil claim keeps him from being a just and fair prosecutor in the libel case against Detective Burns.
