Sheriff releases names of officers involved in fatal shooting


Chattanooga Police have now identified two of their officers who were also involved in the fatal shooting on Thursday.

They are Officer Ryan Blevins and Investigator Brian McClard.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.


CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office releases the names of the officers involved in a shooting on Thursday.

Last Thursday, both Hamilton County and Chattanooga City officers chased a suspect who they say was driving a stolen vehicle from Catoosa County.

They say that during the pursuit, Damean Alexander Jones, began firing at them.

The chase ended on MLK Boulevard when Jones got out of the vehicle.

Officials say he was killed in an exchange of gunfire.

Today, Sheriff Austin Garrett released the names of 3 of his officers involved in the shooting.

They are detective Jeremi Vandergriff, Corporal Chris Walker and Civil Process Server Jason Cooper.

Detective Vandergriff was shot in the incident. He was released from the hospital later that same day.

All three are on administrative leave for two weeks as is standard policy.
