Sheriff: Thieves shot at stolen truck victim as he chased them down

LAFAYETTE, Georgia (WDEF) – Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson describes a wild chase last night from Chattanooga Valley into the city.

It started with a vehicle theft in the Kensington community on West Highway 193 after midnight.

And turned into a chase all the way into Chattanooga.

The suspect fled in the stolen Ford F150 truck, the victim followed in a second vehicle, then a third vehicle joined the chase.

That third vehicle turned out to be a red Kia Optima that was also stolen in the Kensington area in June.

It seems they were connected to the pickup thief.

The victim says people in both vehicles shot at him during the chase.

He says there were a total of five shots fired at him, but he wasn’t hit.

Investigators later recovered .45 caliber casings inside the stolen Kia.

The stolen Kia ultimately wrecked at 55th Street and St. Elmo Avenue.

The occupants fled the wreck on foot.

The stolen pickup got away.

So Walker County authorities are on the lookout for a 2016 white Ford F150 truck, and the suspects in either of the two vehicles.
