UPDATE: Shots Fired at Cummings Hwy After Police Chase

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The man taken into custody late Friday for the incident on Cummings Highway, faces several charges.

Jeremy Lee Woods, was arrested following a police chase yesterday evening.

The man apparently refused to pull over after police clocked him going 80 on his motorcycle.

He was eventually taken into custody.

Tennessee troopers say the man faces charges of aggravated assault , possession of a firearm in commission of a crime, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and theft of property.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol fires his gun after a chase that ended on Cummings Highway.

Officials say this started Friday afternoon when a trooper clocked a motorcycle going nearly 80 miles an hour.

Officials say the trooper caught up to the motorcycle on Cummings highway. They say the man spun the motorcycle around and it hit the front of trooper car.

According to officials, the man ran into wood and the trooper pursued him.

Tennessee Highway Patrol says the man turned around with a pistol and pointed it at his own head. Then they say the trooper tried to talk him out of it. They say the man then pointed the weapon at the trooper. Officials say the Trooper fired two shoots, neither shots hit the man. No one was injured in this altercation.

The man ran off again, but was eventually taken into custody.

“The motorcycle turned out to be stolen. I don’t know if that is why he ran or not, but it did turn out to be a stolen motorcycle. We found that out after the incident happened,” said Sgt. Alan Bailey.

Troopers say the man wouldn’t give his name, so they don’t know who he is.

The trooper who fired the shots will be on administrative leave until further investigation.
