Silverdale prison escapee leads police on a chase

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A Silverdale Prison inmate is back in custody after after authorities say he escaped from a work detail.

It happened shortly before 8 A.M.

Prison officials say the inmate was on a work detail along 5400 block of Highway 153 when he escaped custody.

Officials say the man stole a van then led authorities on a chase before crashing the vehicle on Chamberlain Avenue.

He was captured a short time after the crash.
