Snake Concerns In Georgia

DALTON, GA,(WDEF)-"I Actually saw a snake where i work at here in Dalton".

Jonathan Marks avoided getting bitten but dozens more Georgians hiking, gardening and playing sports are at risk.

Parker Suddeth, Grass and More Outdoor Services,"When we were raking back pine straw there were snakes lying up under the pine straw and then at the edge of wood lines, during the day and at water beds where the snakes mainly like to stay".

Grass & More have three teams of landscapers working throughout North Georgia and have already dealt with 3 snakes this week .

"Make sure you can always see where your hands and feet are going to be, if you are going to be in tall grass or brush make sure you have on jeans and tall boots or snake leggings."

At Dalton Animal Care, Doctor Jessica Rogers is concerned for pets wandering in woods and in back yards.

"Especially this summer its been a lot worse than normal, its always a possibility that you or your pet could be bitten by a snake, there are ways to treat it but its better to prevent it".

This tiny vile of vaccine can help.

"If your pet does get bit the treatment is several thousand dollars and is often cost prohibitive to most owners, i think the vaccine is about 40 dollars at least here".

In some areas of Georgia, Anti-venom administration is up 35 percent over the same time last year.
