Soddy Daisy residents dealing with flood insurance
SODDY DAISY, Tennessee (WDEF) – Soddy Daisy residents continue to clean up from this week’s flash flooding, but some of them have no help doing so.
News 12’s Kaylee Nix spoke to one family who was left to deal with the damage on their own.
The rain has stopped but now many Soddy Daisy residents are struggling to clear mud and debris out of their home.
Tiffiany Gill and her family are having to do all the cleaning themselves, without any help from their insurance.
“The water was rushing over my feet and I looked up and it was pouring down off of the road into our yard, it was pouring everything through our porch, like it was pouring over, probably hitting four feet up on the house.”
Adam Gill was there when his water from Little Soddy Creek flooded his house.
Him and his mom Tiffiany started the clean up process today, but say they’ve gotten no assistance.
“We don’t have a lot of help. the flood adjustors are coming and they’re telling us the water didnt get in the house, but we’ve got water lines to four feet in the back. and then we’ve got you know like a foot up on the inside.”
Many Soddy Daisy residents dont carry flood insurance, but Gill does.
She says even with insurance, its still too much to handle.
“They’re also telling us there’s only certain, so much they can do. And he told me that it would be 30 to 60 days before I even got any type of funding or anything for my flood insurance.”
Tiffiany said they are getting help from their neighbors; one man is going around to help residents clear out the mud at no cost.
“He’s coming tomorrow and hes cleaning this mud up for free because its his ministry. he called it mucking it out and hes just coming around, cleaning stuff up for free.”
But Tiffiany has a warning for other people as they work to clean up too.
“Well you know we’ve got other people coming around here that’s gonna charge us like a million dollars and people, they need to think about that, they need to check their insurance policy before they allow somebody to do it because a lot of stuff they’re wanting to do is not covered under your flood insurance.”
