Some of old Whirlpool complex in Cleveland set to be demolished
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks said that some of the old Whirlpool complex in downtown will be demolished.
“We have had discussions about as many as one, two, or three of those buildings, but there are multiple sites being discussed,” Mayor Brooks said.
An announcement was recently made.
The Whirlpool complex has been in downtown for years.
The mayor said that around six years ago they moved their operations to another facility in the area.
Since then, the complex was used only as storage.
The Mayor hopes the demolition will spark revitalization.
“We’re hoping that this will begin sort of the kick off of buildings coming down so new things can come in, new growth, vibrancy,” Mayor Brooks said.
The complex is still owned by the Whirlpool Corporation.
Mayor Brooks said that contracts to begin demolition will be let this month.
