South Pittsburg Elementary student walks out of school

SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tennessee (WDEF) – Marion County School leaders are taking a closer look at an incident Wednesday, where a kindergarten student at South Pittsburg Elementary left school and was found several blocks away.

According to Director of Schools Dr. Mark Griffin, the child left through an unlocked emergency door in a classroom.

The child did cross a major roadway and was found near the downtown area.

Dr. Griffith says “he” told staff that he was going to see his grandfather who lives nearby.
