Southern Conference Championships Staying in North Carolina
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WDEF) — It looks like the Southern Conference championships are staying put this year.
The Conference has announced it will honor its commitment and keep the games in North Carolina for 2016-17.
That means the men’s and women’s basketball teams will play in Asheville, while the men’s soccer and golf teams will play in Greensboro and Pinehurst.
Even though the games are staying in the Tar Heel State, SoCon school leaders say they are still against any discriminatory legislation.
Officials say they’re still looking at the question of future championships in North Carolina in the spring.
