Special election on deck following resignation of Marjorie Taylor Greene

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF)- Monday, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene formally resigned from Congress.

This after increasing tension between her and President Trump over the release of the Epstein Files.

With Representative Greene stepping down, there is not currently a Congressional representative for our North Georgia counties.

However, that will change quickly, and election officials such as Whitfield County election supervisor Shaynee Bryson are urging voters to make sure they are able to participate in the battle to replace MTG.

Bryson said, “It’ll be a quick turn on time for us less preparation, but the same amount of voting time is allowed for the voters.”

The battle is about to be on for the Georgia District 14 Special Election.

17 different candidates have indicated they plan to file to run in this race.

Among the announced candidates include Republicans State Senator Colton Moore, former FEMA administrator Star Black, current Dalton city councilman Nicky Lama, and former Brigadier General and Democrat Shawn Harris.

However, unlike a normal election where there are partisan primaries before the general election, this will operate differently.

Bryson said, “Yes, so every candidate will be on the same ballot so it will be a very long ballot. The voter, of course, will choose the candidate they wish to vote for, and we are expecting that to result in a runoff.”

The Georgia Secretary of State will have to announce the election date within the next 10 days.

It will be preceded by early voting of just one week, compared to the three weeks conducted for the scheduled elections in November.

In order to be eligible to vote, you must be registered at least 29 days in advance, which given the quick timeline of this election will likely be soon.

Bryson said, “There’s a short amount of time to update your information, so we want to encourage people to go ahead and update their information now so that you know that it’s ready to go.”S

She says it is important to remain tuned into election sources so you know when it’ll be time to head to the polls.

Bryson said, “So you can either access our website, we will attempt to issue that call on our website as soon as possible, but of course the most up-to-date information you can get will be on the Georgia Secretary of State website.”

This will not replace the already scheduled Congressional elections in November.

That will have the traditional partisan primaries in August, followed by the general election during the midterms.

If there are runoffs in this special election, they would be held four weeks following the first round of voting.
