Spring Practice Gives the Mocs a Chance to Tinker Around

Chattanooga-(WDEF) Spring is a season for change, and that goes for football teams in spring practice.

With no games on the horizon, the Mocs can afford to tinker around in spring drills.
Mocs offensive coordinator Jeff Durden agrees that spring practice is a great time to experiment with your football team.
"We take a good look at our offseason self-study. Try to take advantage of things that people try to take away."
Added quarterback Jacob Huesman,"I guess it is a good time to try some new things. New people at new places. We’re bringing Nick Timoshchuk over to try some fullback today."
Head coach Russ Huesman says some changes don’t last long.
"When I was a defensive coordinator, I put some in myself and looked at it for about the first ten minutes. And then say, that’s out. We’re done with that."
With a veteran quarterback like Jacob Huesman does he dream up wild plays in the spring for himself and his teammates.
"No. I’m perfectly happy with the way things are. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And let’s score a lot of points."
Durden says you can’t give into temptation and play mad scientist in the spring.
"I’ve got a great staff. They won’t let me. You have to slap your hand. That’s quality control for us. I’ve got a great group of guys that I work with on a daily basis. We keep each other in check."
While there may be some changes in the spring, it’s still the same game.
Said Durden,"But it’s still fundamental football. It’s about blocking, tackling, and throwing and catching, and then running. So don’t stray too far away from that. I’m old school as far as that goes."
