Stephen Gonsalves Helps Lookouts Blank the Barons 6-0

(lookouts.com) Stephen Gonsalves only surrendered three hits in six innings in the Lookouts 6-0 shutout win versus Birmingham. Gonsalves set a season-high in innings pitched and won his second game of the year.

Opposing the Lookouts top pitching prospect was 2015 first round draft pack Carson Fulmer. Chattanooga was able to get to the Vanderbilt product early in the second inning when Leo Reginatto scored on a Stuart Turner double. The team’s second run of the day was manufactured by Ryan Walker in the third. The second baseman was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Walker proceeded to score on a Daniel Palka RBI single.

Aside from those two runs Fulmer was dominant for Birmingham, striking out 10 Lookouts in just five innings. Fulmer left the game in the sixth and was relieved by Zack Burdi, a 2016 draft pick and the brother of Lookouts pitcher Nick Burdi. Burdi struggled with his command, walking four batters without recording an out. Chattanooga was able to capitalize on the miscues by scoring four runs in that frame.

The six runs proved to be enough as Jake Reed slung two shutout innings and Trevor Hildenberger closed out the ninth to ensure the Lookouts 44th win of the season.

Tomorrow, the team looks to clinch their eighth straight series victory when they send out red hot starting pitcher Aaron Slegers. Slegers has won his last five starts and has earned eight straight quality starts.
