Student accused of leaving loaded gun at university bus stop
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) – A University of Georgia student is accused of leaving a loaded handgun at a campus bus stop.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that university police say 21-year-old Jasmine Aris Starnes was arrested Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge of reckless conduct.
A campus police report says a graduate student leaving his lab in the early morning found the gun lying in plain sight in a planter earlier this month. Police say the weapon’s magazine held six 9mm hollow-point rounds, though no bullet was in its chamber.
It’s unclear whether Starnes had a permit to carry a weapon in a school safety zone.
She was released on $1,500 bond. It’s unclear whether she has a lawyer.
