Student Charged after Bringing Gun to Cleveland Middle School

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) — A student at Cleveland Middle School brought a handgun onto school property on Wednesday, the Cleveland Police Department said. The student was taken into custody by police and is being charged.

A report was made to school administrators about the incident on Thursday, according to police. One student was shown a handgun by another student while on school property, school administrators said.

Police say the student was taken to Bradley County Juvenile Detention Center. The student is being charged with Carrying Weapons on School Property.

Cleveland police found and recovered the handgun from the student’s home. Police say they brought the gun into evidence.

Police determined that there was no current threat before beginning their investigation.

Cleveland City Schools wants to remind parents that weapons are not tolerated on school grounds.
