Students race electric cars in the Green Prix

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Not a grand prix, but a green prix.

Students from all over Hamilton County built and raced their own electric vehicles.

Local non-profit Greenspace and E-P-B teamed up to provide building materials to various schools in the Tennessee Valley.

Kids who chose to participate built and designed their own team car and logo.

Madison Rowlings, the director of sustainability events at Greenspace, said this is a great way to teach kids about clean energy and its importance to Chattanooga’s future.

“Today’s race is all about electric vehicles. We are preparing the future of our workforce of Chattanooga for the electrification of the market and the move from fossil fuels to electric vehicles is very important to the sustainability of the Chattanooga region.”

There will be another race tomorrow afternoon featuring middle school and high school students.

It’s taking place at the U-T-C Sports Complex next to Engel Stadium.
