Sunnytown Supermarket Shut Down for Code Violations


City officials say Fire Marshalls were forced to condemn and close Sunnytown Supermarket because of electrical violations and fire hazards.
It’s was one of East Chattanooga’s only grocery stores left.
Residents came out to the parking lot only to find store was locked up.
Councilman Yusef Hakeem says the city has been aware of this growing problem for a long time.
"The facts are that in the state of TN the area that’s considered the worst food desert is in the East Chattanooga area and I think we have to look at that and put emphasis on it to deal with that kind of situation," said Hakeem.
Hakeem said they’ve arranged for the mobile market to come by that area more often to provide fresh
