Supermarket Guru Report for April 6th

Red Clay Southern Hot Sauce is a HIT.
They say this Southern Hot Sauce is aged in bourbon barrels, which is probably why there is just a hint of sweet – as there is no sugars added. The burn is clean and smooth and comes from the Fresno Chili Peppers which are red and medium sized, about 2 inches long, similar to the Jalepeno and grown in California. As I wish for all things hot, I would like to see a Scoville rating on the label so people can compare the hotness to their tastes. 1 teaspoon is zero calories and just 75 grams of sodium. A good sauce to spice up just about any food or beverage. On the expensive side for what it is. Retails for $7.99 for 5 oz. Total Score is 87.

Chuao Chocolatier Handcrafted Chocolate Strawberry Waffle Wild is a HIT.
As you know by now, my favorite is chocolate with at least 70% cacao, but this chocolate is an exception! The combination of 41% cacao (which is milk chocolate) with real strawberries (not strawberry flavor) and waffles to add crunch is spectacular! Chef Michal, the chocolatier, is brilliant. The chocolate has a beautiful smooth finish as to make you smile, each square has a different word on it – words like smile, flutter, tingle and ahh…and of course – chew, wow, chuao – which can lead to a lot of fun when you share with someone you love. Half a bar, a little under 1 1/2 ounces is 210 calories, 12 grams of fat and 20 grams of sugars. All of Chuao’s chocolate is ethically sourced. Retails for $6 for 2.8 oz. Total Score is 90.

Sconnie Foods Squeezable Sauerkraut Original style is a HIT.
I love sauerkraut and this is so smart. Makes me wonder why someone hasn’t thought of this before! I don’t buy as much sauerkraut as I’d like to because they either come in those large jars or those big plastic bags. This is a perfect solution! And this idea of being able to squeeze it right on a hot dog or sandwich, voila! The sauerkraut itself is excellent with the right flavor and crunch. I’ll keep one of this in my fridge all year long. 2 tablespoons about what you would use on one hot dog, is just ten calories, zero fat, zero sugars but does have 250 mg of sodium. Makes me wonder what other foods should come in a similar easy to use package. Retails for $3.99 for 11 oz. Total Score is 91.

Yumbutter Organic Superfood Peanut YumbutterGO Peanut Butter with Chia, Hemp Seeds & Goji is my PICK OF THE WEEK!
This is delicious. More than just a peanut butter in a pouch! A terrific recipe of peanuts, sunflower, Chia and Hemp seeds with a bit of coconut sugar and oil, Goji Berry and Lucuma – which is a subtropical fruit that is used to sweeten and is a great source of antioxidants, fiber and vitamins and minerals. A 2 ounce serving is 14 grams of fat (which is about half of regular peanut butter), 7 grams of protein (which is about double that of regular peanut butter) and 4 grams of sugars. This brand is giving back in a big way by joining the Buy One|Feed One campaign where they donate an equal amount to feed the hungry. Excellent product, excellent company. Retails for $6.99 for 7 oz. Total Score is 96.
