Suspect collapses and dies while booking for overnight chase

CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) – A man involved in a police chase overnight died while he was being booked at jail.

Bradley County officials say 26 year old Mathew Crisp collapsed before 5 AM.

He was the passenger in a vehicle driven by a woman that refused to stop when a trooper tried to stop it around 2 AM for speeding.

The chase led into McMinn County where the vehicle crashed.

Both occupants were arrested.

Bradley County officials say both of them refused medical attention at the scene.

But Crisp was pronounced dead three hours later after collapsing in the booking area of the jail.

The case is under investigation.
