Tax Free Weekend keeps stores busy

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Tax Free Weekend in Tennessee wrapped up Sunday.

People were out in full force shopping at the Hamilton Place area.

All weekend long there’s been no taxes for certain items as school gets started very soon.

Academy Sports Store Director Stephen Holland tells News 12 people were taking advantage of this no tax weekend and buying things like backpacks and lunch boxes as well as shoes.

He says though the weekend matches up pretty well with the last tax free weekend, it does not compare to just a normal weekend.

“This is definitely an increase in foot traffic. We are from open to close one line open after another. Normally you’ll see three to four registers open at a time. We’ve had every register open all day long,” Holland says.

Other states like Alabama have a similar tax free weekend. However, this year Georgia did not have one.
