TBI Director Larry Wallace Issues Report On Cleveland Police Dept

CLEVELAND,TN, (WDEF)-Michael Daubner, Cleveland Resident,"Caused a little embarrassment, disgrace with their personal actions which speaks poorly to the community at large."

Michael Daubner is just one Cleveland resident disappointed when demotions, forced retirements and sex scandals dogged his local police department.

Others feel the current force is doing a decent job.

James Haley, Cleveland Resident,"Because the others are pushed to cover everything, would like to see a few more."

The TBI’s Larry Wallace has now issued an 83 page report recommending a 1.6 million dollar overhaul.

Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland,"The staffing is not up to where it should be, for the fact there are some vacancies they should be filled and we should add maybe a dozen new officers, we need them on the street, we need the public to see them".

Rowland also wants a new police chief that leads by example.

"All stops should be pulled out as far as background, i have discussed with law enforcement people across the state and they say not only should you do a regular background check but you should listen to the water cooler gossip".

City Council members will review the report in full Monday.
