TECH BYTE: Amazon Steps Up Home Security Tech

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Amazon just announced some new devices, and features for older ones.

Home security is at the forefront of many of Amazon’s new products.

A lot of people have guard dogs to help look after their home while they’re away, but what about robots?

The Amazon Astro can monitor your home too, but with intelligence.

It literally brings Alexa to you.

This robot uses artificial intelligence, and sensor technology to move around your home, and go where needed.

The only thing Astro can’t do is go up and down stairs.

The introductory price starts at about $1,000, and you will have to request an invite.

That also includes a free six-month trial of Ring Protect Pro, where Astro can patrol your home, investigate activity, and save videos in Ring’s cloud storage.

Apple Watch and Fitbit now have some more competition.

Halo View is Amazon’s newest fitness tracker, featuring a vibrant color display.

Not only can you count your steps, but you can also use Halo View to monitor your heart rate, sleep, and blood oxygen levels.

The nearly $80 price tag includes a year of Halo Fitness and Nutrition membership, giving you access to special workouts and programs.

Amazon also introduced some new features for Alexa.

My personal favorite as a big Disney fan is ‘Hey, Disney!’ which comes out next year.

Kids – and yes, even adults – can use this voice assistant on supported Echo devices to talk to their favorite Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars characters.

Other cool new Alexa features help keep you organized.

The Household calendar widget makes it easier to view and update your family’s schedule, and every family member can access any changes.

The Sticky notes feature will allow you to create and display digital sticky notes on your Echo Show screen.

There’s no excuse to forget to do something on your to-do list now!

And another new smart home product that looks like a drone for inside your house is the Ring Always Home Cam.

Amazon says it’s the first flying, autonomous home security camera, so you get a lot of different camera angles from just one device.

You need an invite to buy this product, as well.
