TECH BYTE: Stream for Free at Your Local Library
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — When you think of a library, checking out books usually comes to mind.
But libraries aren’t just for reading anymore.
They’re going digital, and getting even more high tech.
Libraries still have plenty of traditional books and CDs for you to check out, but you can also stream what you read and listen to there.
Chattanooga Public Library Executive Director Corinne Hill says libraries are embracing technology, moving with it as it improves.
“We really try to make certain that we are delivering services that people want,” Hill said. We’re so connected these days, that if we’re not connected, then we’re not doing our jobs.”
Reading is the foundation of the library, even if people are reading using a different, digital format.
Hill says traditional and audio books will always be around.
But now with your library card, you can easily stream music, movies, comics, and of course ebooks and audio books.
And you can stream it all at home.
You just have to go on your library’s website, and follow the instructions.
“It’s a very simple thing to do,” Hill said. “You don’t have to be any kind of a techie to make it happen. I mean, if you’re on Facebook, you can make this stuff happen.”
Many libraries also have a Maker Space, where you can use a 3D printer, or even a professional photography studio.
“That’s often used by people who are trying to sell stuff online,” Hill said.
So, why not take advantage of all these resources?
They’re free!
And it’s as easy as getting a library card.
