TECH BYTE: Using Tech to Find Cheap Airfare
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — It’s almost November, which means it’s time to start thinking about your holiday travel plans if you haven’t already.
Finding affordable airfare isn’t impossible, even during the busy holiday travel season.
You can track down those cheaper prices with a simple Google search.
It makes it easy to compare different rates.
Once you search “Google Flights,” you can choose what type of trip – like round trip or one way – how many passengers, and when you’re looking to get away.
It also gives several different price options – showing you the cheapest airfares based on when you book, and sometimes going through different airlines for one trip.
KAYAK’s website and smartphone app have also been good resources for frequent fliers.
On the app, you can create a watchlist with custom alerts. This lets you track prices of flights, and know when to buy.
Search filters on the website even include the type of plane, or the length of your layover.
Skyscanner, Expedia, and Priceline are other good smartphone apps to have when looking for flights with the best prices.
If you do search for flights online, make sure to use an “incognito” or “private” window in your Internet browser. Sometimes that will help you avoid price hikes based on your previous searches.
And don’t forget, airfare prices change depending on the day you book your flight, and when you actually take your trip.
Having flexibility when you leave and return home will help save you money.
