Tennessee’s abortion ban goes into affect August 25th
The "trigger law" has now been officially triggered
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Tennessee’s Attorney General now has a firm date on when the state’s full abortion ban will go into affect.
It will be on August 25th.
The so-called trigger law has been waiting on an official proceeding from the U.S. Supreme Court.
And on Tuesday, the court officially issued the judgement in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that we learned about last month.
So today’s action by the Attorney General was a formality.
“As required by State law, I am notifying the Tennessee Code Commission that Roe and Casey have been overturned by the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs, returning abortion regulation to the states,” said General Slatery. “Thirty days from today, on August 25th, 2022, Tennessee’s Human Life Protection Act will come into effect.”
The trigger law was voted by the legislature years ago.
It said that in the event that the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe V. Wade, an abortion ban with limited exemptions would go into affect.
It will replace the current six week abortion ban that just went into affect.
Here is the letter today from the Attorney General.
