The New Year Brings Even Lower Gas Prices

Chattanooga (WDEF) – Gas prices dropped another 1.4 cents a gallon on average in Chattanooga last week according to GasBuddy.com.

Their daily survey of 170 gas outlets in our area put the average price at $1.68.

So we start 2016 30 cents cheaper than it was a year ago.

"Talk about starting the New Year off right," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst. "The good news is that we could see even more price drops before the seasonal lift that will likely begin as we push towards Spring. For any Americans that made resolutions to try and spend less at the pump this year, I think they will be in good shape to achieve that. The fundamentals of oil remain weak which will contribute to low oil prices for some time, while gasoline demand will likely move lower now with the holidays behind us, putting downward pressure on gasoline prices," DeHaan said.

The lowest prices in our area right now are on Brainerd Road.

We have 2 prices at $1.58, at the Sam’s Club and the Shell at Jenkins Road.

Other low prices around the area this morning:

$1.64 Cleveland
$1.67 Athens
$1.67 Dalton
$1.69 Dunlap (Cagle Mtn Trading Post)
