Thief steals donation kettle from Salvation Army bell ringer
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) – Police are looking for a thief who swiped a kettle filled with Salvation Army donations from an unsuspecting bell ringer in Georgia.
The theft of holiday charity cash happened Tuesday night outside a Savannah supermarket. Security video released by Savannah-Chatham County police shows the culprit, who wore a hooded camouflage jacket and red shorts, lurking near the entrance for about a minute before the snatch.
A security camera filmed the thief sneaking up to the kettle when the Salvation Army bell ringer turned his back. The thief unhooked the red kettle from the chain tethering it to a tripod stand, then ran off with the cash container.
Police said in a news release the suspect appears to be a bearded man in his 20s.
