THP spot check inspects Hamilton County school buses

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol wants to make sure your child is safe when they board the school bus.

They perform bus inspections at least once a year and also do random spot check inspections.

On Thursday morning, two full time bus inspectors with THP were performing spot check inspections on Hamilton County school buses.

They look at the brakes, the lights, and the inside and outside of the buses.

When a bus passes an inspection there is a yellow sticker put on the front bumper.

“We want to make sure with our kids riding the bus that our equipment is in very tip top shape. Also every driver that drives a school bus, our inspectors do a four hour driver training class every year it is mandatory that they come to,” said Sgt. Alan Bailey.

A bus failed the spot check, so its inspection sticker was removed and a safety notice was put in the windshield, saying the bus can’t be used.

If you have concerns about a bus or see one driving around that is not suppose to be, you are asked to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
