THP Stepping Up Enforcement Over Holiday Weekend

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol is making sure drivers understand the risks of drinking and driving over the New Year’s weekend.

Highway patrolmen will be conducting an aggressive traffic safety enforcement campaign starting Friday night through Monday.

State troopers will be doing saturation patrols, bar and tavern checks, as well as seat belt, sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints during the holiday weekend.

“The Tennessee Highway Patrol is going to be highly visible, with troopers that are focused on unsafe drivers,” said Lt. John Harmon, Tennessee Highway Patrol. “Troopers will be highly focused on drivers that are driving without their seatbelt on, drivers that are driving distracted, and of course, in this four-day holiday weekend, troopers are going to be highly focused on drivers that are driving under the influence.”

Harmon says, as always, THP is urging party-goers to have a designated driver this holiday weekend.
