Threads launches with questionable local impact
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A new app could change the social media landscape.
Meta launched Threads on Wednesday.
It is a text based app that is similar to Twitter.
Over 10 million people have signed up so far.
Many users have criticized Twitter in recent weeks for changes such as limiting the amount of tweets one can read per day.
We asked several Chattanoogans if they had downloaded the app and none of them said yes.
We also reached out to emergency responders and the National Weather Service for effects on communication during disasters.
The NWS says that while their ability to use Twitter has been affected, they only use the platform as a supplement and not as their main source of communication.
Hamilton County EMS says that they rely on 911 calls for communication and not social media reports.
