Three arrested in Sequatchie kidnapping

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, TN (WDEF) – According to the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Department, officers were dispatched at around 6:49am Central Time to Woodland Way on Signal Mountain, in Sequatchie County. On arrival they met a victim that stated to them he had been taken, at gunpoint, from a location inside the city limits of Dunlap. Officers with the Dunlap Police Department, who had also received information of the incident, responded to the scene.

The victim told Detectives from both agencies that he had been held at gunpoint, was bound with tape, and placed into the trunk of a vehicle. When they arrived at a location near Woodland Way, the suspects removed him from the trunk, and proceeded to assault him, and take money from him. The victim was transported by EMS to Erlanger Sequatchie for treatment of injuries sustained in the assault. Through the course of the joint investigation with Detective Paul Howard of Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Department, and a Detective with the Dunlap Police Department, three male individuals were taken into custody from a location in Dunlap.

Logan Lepard, 18, of Dunlap; Anthony Michael Kauffman, 19, of Nappanee, IN; and Hayden Daniel Rutherford, 18, of Dunlap, were all charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Robbery by Det. Howard, in connection with the crimes that occurred in Sequatchie County. The three also face charges from Dunlap Police in connection with the kidnapping that occurred in the city limits. The cooperative investigation between the two departments led to the arrest of the suspects within 24 hours of the incident. All three are being housed in the Sequatchie County Jail, without bond, and have a General Sessions Court date of June 19, 2015.
