Three Downtown Restaurants Closing
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The local dining scene is saying goodbye to three well-known restaurants, each with its own loyal following and unique story. From longtime favorites to newer ventures, the closures mark a shift in the city’s ever-evolving culinary landscape.
Ernest Chinese, located on the Southside, will serve its final meals on July 13th. Originally opened as The Flying Squirrel, the restaurant transitioned to Ernest Chinese in the fall of last year, bringing a bold new flavor profile to the area. Despite a warm reception from diners, the owners announced that the restaurant will close as they prepare to explore a new direction.
Meanwhile, Taco Mac on Market Street closed its doors abruptly with no prior notice to customers. The company has yet to release specific details regarding the Chattanooga location but cited a broader realignment across several markets as the reason for the sudden shutdown.
Rounding out the trio is Thai Smile, a downtown staple for nearly two decades, which will officially close on July 6th. A sign posted at the restaurant broke the news to customers, though no further explanation has been offered at this time.
As Chattanooga continues to grow and change, these closures reflect the challenges and transitions faced by even the most cherished local establishments. Diners looking to enjoy a final visit to Ernest Chinese or Thai Smile are encouraged to stop by before the respective closing dates.
