Trial for Amazon Fulfillment Center Shooter Comes to a Verdict

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – After three long days of testimony, shocking revelations, and emotional courtroom moments, the fate of D’ante Jones is finally decided.

In court, prosecutors called the shooting a premeditated act of revenge. As shift change was occurring the night of the crime, the courtroom learned that Jones swiftly took a Lyft to retrieve his weapon of choice.

The jury then saw video evidence of Jones lying in wait for over an hour and a half before confronting and shooting Moon at close range.

The defense introduced testimony from a clinical psychologist who diagnosed Jones with PTSD, stemming from a traumatic event during his early teens.

Additionally, a female Amazon employee testified about a prior altercation between Jones and Moon, noting that while Moon made threats, he neither displayed a weapon nor initiated physical contact.

As closing arguments were made and a 5-hour deliberation between the jury members came to an end, it was announced at 3:12 pm that the jury had now found D’ante Jones guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of 19-year-old Javontae Moon on August 9th, 2023.

Jones’ official sentencing is set for April 11th, 20-25 at 11:00 am.
