TSSAA Denies Appeal From Brainerd Over Brawl With Austin East

The TSSAA has denied the appeal from Brainerd High School over the fight the Panthers boys basketball team had with Austin East last month at Brainerd high school. That means Brainerd will be suspended from the state basketball tournament for this season and next season.
Austin East has also been suspended from the state tournament for the next two years.
The Panthers and Road Runners were both ranked in the top five in the state before their fight on January 27th which forced officials to call off the game late in the second quarter.

Here are the minutes from today’s TSSAA special called meeting on the incident.

The Board voted to keep the original Disciplinary Action in place for Austin-East High School with the understanding that Austin-East has put in place 12 sportsmanship initiatives that they are and will be working on as a community. The Board would entertain another appeal by the Austin-East administration once significant progress has been made with these 12 initiatives.
