Two arrested, one on the run after Sunday night police chase
SCOTTSBORO, Alabama (WDEF) — On Sunday night, a high speed pursuit that began in Dade County, Georgia ended in Jackson County, Alabama.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit involved the Trenton, Georgia Police Department and the Ider, Alabama Police Department.
Jackson County deputies responded to County Road 685 near Flat Rock where they say the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser had wrecked into a wooded area.
Officials say a search of the vehicle found several weapons including a shotgun with an altered serial number, two “sawed off” or short barreled shotguns, a 9 mm pistol and a .22 cal pistol. According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were also found in the vehicle along with a bulletproof vest.
Authorities say 21 year old Bailey Leeann Taylor of Fyffe, Alabama was arrested at the site of the crash while two others fled on foot into the woods.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, 38 year old Johnathan Ray Gore of Fyffe, Alabama was located in the woods and arrested.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Taylor and Gore were charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana 2nd degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, two counts of Possession of Sawed Off or Short Barreled Shotgun and Possession of Firearm with an Altered Serial Number.
Both are in the Jackson County Jail with bond set at $23,100, the Sheriff’s Office says.
Authorities say the third occupant was 27 year old Nickolas Donavan Brooks of Flat Rock, Alabama escaped into the woods.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Brooks had outstanding arrest warrants for Domestic Violence 3rd degree, Escape 3rd degree and Probation Revocation.
Despite a K-9 search by the Dade County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were unable to locate Brooks but deputies did locate a handgun believed to have been dropped by Brooks as he ran.
The Sheriff’s Office says that their investigation revealed Brooks made statements about shooting at the police during the chase.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Brooks is considered a Fugitive From Justice and is considered armed and dangerous.
