Two Chattanoogans receive compensation after being pepper-sprayed in New York Occupy Wall Street protest
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Two Chattanooga residents get a share of more than $332,500 paid out by the city of New York to Occupy Wall Street protestors.
The lawyer representing Chattanooga native Damien Crisp and a female from the Scenic City who did not want to be identified spoke with the New York Times Tuesday.
The defendants claimed the police unjustly blasted them with pepper spray.
We caught up with Crisp Tuesday evening after the settlement was reached.
Crisp said, "I think I get, uh, what I think each of us, me and Julie who’s also from Chattanooga, get around $50,000 and two young women who were pepper-sprayed the most severely, each were awarded $60,000, I believe. And so we’ll wait a bit and get our money, and what I want to do with it is put it back in to the social justice work."
Online video showed a Deputy Inspector pepper-spraying a cluster of marchers, mostly women.
