Two injured in lithium battery explosion at Cleveland plant

UPDATE: The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) says at 11:55 a.m. officials were dispatched to E 3rd Street for a patient that was suffering from injuries related to an industrial accident that occurred in Bradley County.

The patient was transported from Bradley County to Erlanger via ambulance, according to CFD.

They say it was initially believed that the patient had come in contact with titanium dust. Chattanooga firefighters set up decontamination with assistance from Erlanger officials.

They entered the contained area outside of the ER to assess the patient and learned that the party had sustained burns from a lithium battery explosion.

CFD says precautions were taken to ensure that there was no hazardous material on the patient. Once that was completed, the patient was turned over to Erlanger personnel for further treatment.

They also say a second injured patient from the Bradley County incident was reportedly taken to Atlanta for medical treatment.

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF)-  Two people have been hospitalized following an incident Wednesday morning at the Amaero Plant at the Spring Branch Industrial Park in Cleveland.

Cleveland Police say they received the call about a possible explosion inside of the plant, which is a defense manufacturer that opened up in Bradley County in February 2025.

They say they are unable to confirm if the incident was an explosion.

One of the injured had to be airlifted to a local hospital.

Neither of their identities have been released.

Law enforcement cleared the scene early Wednesday afternoon, and it’s unclear if operations have started back up at the plant.

We are working to learn more on the circumstances surrounding this morning’s incident.

Two individuals have been transported to receive care following an explosion at the Amaero Advanced Materials & Manufacturing plant on Innovation Drive, according to the Cleveland Fire Department.

They say the individuals transported had serious injuries.
