Two teenagers save a woman’s life

McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy says that quick actions from two teenagers could have saved a wheelchair bound woman’s life.

McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy said, "Both of you showed immense courage to become involved and do the right thing for a neighbor who was in need." 13-year old Chase McCallister and 15-year old Devon Green saw their neighbor, Rubie Hiele go outside her home and scream for help. Chase McCallister, teenage hero said, "It was nerve wracking and it was hard to tell what was happening really because she was screaming, and you couldn’t understand what she was saying." The two teenagers witnessed 36-year old Timothy Hitt assault Rubie and called 9-1-1. Guy said, "Sometimes people are a little hesitant to get involved. Especially young folks. But these two young men made that call and stayed on the phone. Kept our dispatchers updated on what was going on." When deputies arrived, they found Hiehle unconscious inside her home. Guy said, "The two officers are here today too. They called me on the scene. Officer Johnson did and very clearly told me that the actions of these two young men probably saved this lady’s life."

Friday afternoon the two teenage boys were presented with commendation letters for their efforts at the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office. Devon Green, teenage hero said, "I mean it feels good because not that many people get the opportunity to do that." McCallister said, "I guess the honor of receiving the certificate and when I get older I want to be part of the law enforcements."

The investigation into Hitt showed he not only assaulted Hiele, but he also threatened a young boy at the residence. Hitt is being held in the McMinn county jail on a 40-thousand dollar bond.
